We Have Moved!

We have moved to the Diamondhead building in the Hoover Court Shopping Center, behind Wells Fargo in the white office building. It is on the far left of the same shopping center as the Jefferson County Revenue Office.

We have a 4th treatment room, a larger couple's room, and a bathroom off reception. Clients will also find that they have more privacy as the rooms open onto an interior hallway separate from reception.

I've also purchased two spa tables for the comfort of those who cannot comfortably lie flat on their backs. For prenatal clients, this allows us to work your neck and shoulders better while you recline.

We Have a Wait List!

Our booking service includes a wait list.

If we are booked for the time you would like. You can specify what therapist, date and time period you would like to be wait listed for. If we have an opening come up, we will call and/or email that we have an opening and the first to respond will get the spot.

Check out our Comfort Craft tables!

We have 2 Comfort Craft Model 800 Mid-Split Electric tables. The mid-split means that the table can bend up to a 40° angle, which aids to open the back (9°) or with a steeper angle can be used to assist in stretching. This is the table under all our padding and sheets in 2 of our 4 rooms.

STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION

LMT Sally Corado is our Structural Integration Therapist.

Structural Integration is not a type of massage, it's a program. It's a whole body approach that begins with an assessment and then, during a series of visits, utilizes multiple techniques that manipulate the fascia and soft tissue to restore postural balance and increase comfort and range of motion.

POSTURAL BALANCE

Our bodies are amazing creations, but they were not designed for our modern industrialized world. Carrying your purse on your shoulder, sitting on your wallet, leaning on the arm of your chair, wearing heals, wearing shoes with narrow toes, standing with your weight on one foot, and driving with your knee against the door are just some of the common ways you misalign your bodies. We were not made to sit at a desk with our arms forward and backs slouched or to be constantly looking down at our electronics. What our bodies were made to do is to be upright and balanced, and our bodies will naturally compensate for these postural distortions to maintain an upright position.

In addition to the things we do every day, injuries cause changes and adjustments to the mechanics of how we move that can cause habits and issues that remain long after the injury is healed. Something as simple as a stubbed toe will change the way you walk, causing you to hold your toe up and roll to the side of your foot. This causes strain to the muscles in your leg and a change in the angle of your hips. This in turn causes an adjustment in the lumbar spine, resulting in pain on the opposing side. Changing the dynamics of your hips/lumbar spine can cause the rest of your spine to adjust and your ribs to shift, affect the support of your shoulders which in turn contributes to changes in your neck. Your muscles get tight as your body adjusts to the new dynamic and muscle memory develops so that even when your toe stops hurting you are still rolling your foot to the side as you walk. Did you ever consider that your stiff neck could be from the toe you stubbed a year ago? Look at the diagram above and you can see how foot pain can lead to knee pain, pain in your hips and back, then shoulder pain and neck pain.

BENEFITS

A program of Structural Integration can relieve pain, release tension, and restore flexibility. If you have back pain, sciatic pain, or any other pain that you cannot seem to get rid of, you could benefit from a program of Structural Integration. While we can't fix issues such as disk problems and arthritis, the pain from these issues can cause other tension and pain patterns that we can help with. It is particularly helpful with issues caused by scoliosis or having a leg longer or shorter than the other.

If you have been going to physical therapy or a chiropractor and they can't seem to resolve your problem, it could be that Structural Integration is your missing link. Getting a session in prior to going to the chiropractor will warm your muscles up and allow for an easier adjustment that will last longer. While physical therapy concentrates on your injury, Structural Integration will also focus on the areas of tension caused by injury.

If you are considering surgery and can wait, completing a Structural Integration series could help you avoid having to get the surgery. If you have already had surgery, Structural Integration can help you post-fusion.

ASSESSMENT

Assessment consists of gathering information regarding your current issues as well as factors in your past and present that could be contributing to them, checking range of motion, and visually analyzing your posture and alignment and looking for gait abnormalities. Program Development

Once the initial assessment is complete, your therapist will decide on an initial course of action. In addition to various hands on techniques including Myofacial Release, Lymphatic Drainage, Neuromuscular Therapy, and assisted stretching, your therapist may suggest stretches you can do at home as well as changes of habit that can help address your issues.

Assessment and development of a treatment plan is ongoing throughout your program with the goal of determining and addressing the possible cause of your issue as well as addressing the associated pain.

TREATMENT

As massage therapists, our program goes beyond traditional SI that only addresses the fascia. We also integrate other techniques such as Neuromuscular Therapy and assisted stretching as appropriate.

Myofacial Release

Fascia is connective tissue that lines your skin, muscles, nerves, organs, and even the cells of your body. Fascia runs uninterrupted from the top of your head to the tip of your toes, and like a sweater caught by a nail, tension on one area of fascia can affect areas seemingly unconnected in a more remote area of your body. Ever feel crunchiness when you rub a sore area? That is most likely fascia, which instead of being in a gel like state has become more like saran wrap and is sticking. Myofacial Release concentrates on relieving pain by releasing restrictions in the connective tissue and returning it to a gel-like state.

Some Myofacial Release techniques include skin rolling, hooking (a twisting motion), static stretch of the affected area, traction, and cupping for stubborn trigger points. This is particularly good for issues such as Fibromyalgia.

Neuromuscular Therapy

Sally received her certification in Neuromuscular Therapy/Medical Massage from The Rising Spirit School of Natural Health. The term Neuromuscular Therapy has been overused and applied inappropriately, so Sally prefers to refer to it as Clinical, Remedial, or Medical Massage. While Structural Integration traditionally involves working on the fascia, NMT concentrates on thorough regional protocols to address soft tissue issues. We believe it is much more beneficial to the client to include all the tools at our disposal, and NMT is one of the most beneficial.

When soft tissue is overstrained, the muscular tissue surrounding it contracts to protect it. While it does help protect the muscle tissue from further strain, this tension restricts blood flow and the nutrients provided by it and can cause weakness and pain. If the tension also presses on a nerve, it can cause referred sensation in areas serviced by the nerve, which your brain interprets as tingling, numbness or pain. NMT is particularly helpful in addressing these issues.

Assisted Stretching

Stretching promotes flexibility and increases blood circulation and improves tissue function. With Assisted Stretching you safely achieve a deeper stretch and better results. Increased flexibility also helps reduce joint pain as it frees joint restrictions.

Muscle Energy Technique

Muscle Energy Technique works because in order for a muscle to work, the opposing muscles must relax to allow it. With this technique, you are assisted in isolating and activating the opposing muscle to help relax the targeted muscle.
